My Review:

#Just Romance is a collection of seven stories that can neither be called a short story or a novella. But each story has twist and turns which keeps you keep hooked till the end. There is romance no doubt but suspense and mystery too in each story around the protagonist that sometimes you feel there is more to it.

Each story is unique; some will shake your core while some bring a smile on your face. The author Jyoti Arora has used simple, lucid language, which makes an easy connection with the reader. The cover image is apt and the title though different yet apt.

The short poems at start of each story are really something which sets the mood of the story. The description of the settings of the scene is so detailed that one can actually visualize it while reading.

So, if you like to read romances, then #JustRomance is a must-read.

About the author

Jyoti Arora is an Indian novelist and blogger. Besides her books, her writing achievements include several wins in blogging competitions, over five years of freelance writing experience, developing books for kids and abridging 30 English novels like Jane Eyre, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, etc.

Jyoti’s first novel ‘Dream’s Sake’ was published by V&S Publishers in 2011. It tells a beautiful love story revolving around the troubles of physically challenged people. Her second novel ‘Lemon Girl’ is based on the theme of gender crime against women and victim-blaming. It is featured in Ezvid’s wiki list of 9 Well-Written Novels That Put Women Front & Center. It also received appreciation from Ms. Maneka Gandhi. Her third novel ‘You Came Like Hope’ talks about the opposite side of the issue discussed in Lemon Girl. That is, it talks about the fake cases filed by women. This too is a case of gender crime and victim-blaming. But in this case, it is the man who suffers. The book received much appreciation for its unique theme and heart-warming love story. All three books are intense and based on serious social issues. For her fourth book, Jyoti decided to write something lighter and happier. That’s what has resulted in #JustRomance, a collection of happy love stories.

Books have always been Jyoti’s best friends. In fact, books so fascinated her from early childhood that she learnt to read by herself even before she started going to school. And she considers herself fortunate that she is able to pursue her dream of being a novelist and work at what she loves best.

However, if books are her first love, the thrilling and steadily advancing world of technology also fascinates her. As a result, one of her blogs is a technological blog called TechnoTreats. One of her posts in this blog even won her the title of Samsung Mobiler in 2011. After that, she has won several other blogging competitions too.

She is a patient of Thalassemia which forced her to drop out of school too soon. But she did not let that defeat her. She studied on her own and completed her schooling through correspondence courses. Then she went on to Jyoti study BA English (Honours) from Delhi University and then achieved postgraduation degrees in English Literature and Applied Psychology from Annamalai University.

For her determination and achievements, she has received appreciation from several eminent dignitaries and her life story has been covered in various TV shows, radio programs, newspapers, magazines, and websites. In the year 2016, she was one of the 100 special women achievers of India that were invited as special guests to attend the Republic Day parade in Delhi.

Book Review-Reshma Ranjan's Blind, Certainly is Love

BLIND, CERTAINLY IS LOVE
by
Reshma Ranjan

Blurb

Neha Jaiswal is beautiful and intelligent—an alluring combination—but chooses to be a recluse. What works for her is her intimidating personality that comes with her success. With no desire to get into a relationship, the strong, assertive, and hardworking Neha manages to keep the men at bay—all except one.

Sumit Conrad, a super successful businessman, is an intriguing specimen of a man. Known to the world as the good Conrad, Sumit is actually a recluse who prefers only his own company, to the exception of his brother John and sister-in-law Sarika.

When fate throws the flirt in Sumit and the furious Neha together, sparks are bound to fly.

Will Sumit be able to convince the headstrong and opinionated Neha that what he wants is a long haul and not a passing phase?

Or will the stubborn and cantankerous Neha be successful in driving him away?

Will their love make them blind to each other or to their own flaws? Will this blind love ever find its way?

My Review:

All say ‘Love is Blind’. But I always wonder why? Does the person who falls in love lose his/her sight? (Just joking). Love is not a person, it is an emotion.

But yes, when one falls in love; one is oblivious of everything except the person whom he/she loves. So I think the proverb should be ‘Love makes one blind’… (Joking J)

The story obviously is a love story, which starts off with the protagonist bumping into each other. As they say, anger/hate is the first step to love, the same concept is applied by author Reshma Ranjan in this story.

Neha and Sumit, they meet and they hate each other. Their hate gives way to full-fledged romance. But when you think the story will end with “And they lived happily ever after” comes the twist. And what is that? Do grab the book and read.

What I liked is, I got instantly hooked from page one. It’s a fast and intense love story (with several hot scenes) between the protagonists. It’s a mix between erotica and Mills and Boons. The story is definitely addictive as you want to know why and what happened to the protagonists.

I liked the way Reshma has weaved the plot and not letting the reader get a clear picture at once by going in time leap and then going to flashback and then again coming back to present.

What I didn’t like is after such a fast and intense, full of ups and downs throughout the whole story, the sudden and simple end didn’t go well with me. I had expected some more fireworks at the end.

Other than that Blind, Certainly is Love is full on a romantic story with fireworks and which one can finish reading in one sitting, as you won’t get up until you finish reading it.

About the author

Reshma Ranjan is a passionate romantic who loves literature and has been driven by the romance around her. She has made up her own happy endings in her imagination for every movie and for every book with a sad ending.

"Slowly I started to create my own characters and situation, creating a world of romance and happy endings to my liking. But for my laziness, I would have penned umpteen numbers of stories with unexpected people meeting and falling in love and uniting for a lifetime."

Also a voracious reader but for which she believes she could never have started writing. "If I can bring a smile and a happy sigh on at least one reader’s lips I will feel a blessed writer."

Book Review - Zoe M's Call Me Saaya

Synopsis

Shamsher Singh Rathore has it all. A job he loves and a life he lives every moment. Until an untimely call from home embroils him with a woman called Saaya who proceeds to turn his orderly world upside down!

The only interest Sayana Singh Rajput had in him was the prized Sheesh Haveli. She had never believed in love until destiny threw her this impossible challenge.

What do you do when all that you believed in turns out to be a lie?

Will Shamsher be able to save his world?

Will Sayana believe in love or will she allow avarice ruin it all?

What about Saaya?

What happens when desire meets destiny?

Set in idyllic Rajasthan, Call me Saaya is the story of two souls in pursuit for true love while destiny has other plans for them.

About the Author

Zoe M lives and works in Mumbai.

She fell in love with the written word at the age of sixteen. Her affair has only matured over the years as she read stories that captivated her. Now, she uses the magic of words to help her spin her own stories. Her love of reading was born when she read The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand.

Call Me Saaya is Zoe M’s debut novel. It is a romantic tour de force that weaves in and out of metros and a forgotten, quaint village in Rajasthan, revealing stories as it goes. The novel reflects the author’s love for the unexpected and is as engaging as she is.

My Honest Review:

Call me Saaya is Author Zoe M’s debut novel.

Call Me Saaya is the story of Sayana (Saaya) and Shamsher; their anger, their love, and their true identities. It is a romance with suspense as the background.

The author has done a nice work with the use of local lingo as the story is based in Rajasthan. The characters are well defined and the pace of the story is also good especially in the first half.

Though the author has maintained the romance part 100%, the suspense of the story is not up to expectations. Also, I felt the tug of war between the protagonists has been dragged a little too much which made the story little stretched.

Secondly, the antagonist, Ravindra Rajput Kumar, who is supposedly a vile and scheming person, how can he just disappear in the second half of the story. How come he didn’t fight back?

If one ignores the above shortcomings, one can really enjoy this light-hearted, romantic plus suspense story on a dull day, with a cup of kadak chai. It will definitely lighten your mood and bring a smile on to your face.

Book Review-Rafaa Dalvi's Small is Big

SMALL IS BIG:
A Collection of 100 Micro Tales

Blurb

Have you always wanted to read more, but you could never finish that one book?
You kept putting it off, hoping you would find some free time, only to find out that months or even years went by and you saw little progress.

That’s about to change!

With Small is Big, Rafaa Dalvi has created a potpourri of 100 diverse micro tales (140 characters or less) that will provide you a rich experience in easy-to-digest fragments and urge you to read one page after another before you finally finish the book.
And the best part is that there’s a story for everyone, including YOU!

If you’re a romantic at heart, this micro tale is for you-
She kissed his cheek as he smiled back. Nothing had changed much since two decades.
Her husband called her.
She hid the photo in the closet.

If you love happy endings, this micro tale is for you-
You rested on my lap, opened yourself before me and shared your fantasies with me.
Then the stories ended and you turned back into a book.

If you are a big fan of word play, this micro tale is for you-
They’re lying in bed.
“You’re the one,” he says; he’s lying.
“I never doubted it,” she says; she’s lying.
They’re lying in bed.

And if you like thrillers, this micro tale is for you-
There were two of us and one vacant position.
He would die for this job and I would kill for it.
No wonder it worked out just fine for me.

In fact, there are 100 such small tales that will have a big impact on you.

My Review:

Sometimes a couple of lines make a huge impact rather than a couple of pages. Similarly, a micro-tale, wherein a story is told in a couple of lines leaves an everlasting impression rather than a long novel.

Small is Big is written by Rafaa Dalvi, is a collection of 100 such micro-tales which touches your heart. Some bring a smile on your face, while some make you ponder; some break your heart while some make your eyes teary while others hold you in awe.

Loved the unique concept and the skill in which the author has written and conveyed his message through these micro-tales.

Small is big is a must read by all.

Book Review-WaterBoarding by Bragadeesh Prasanna

Blog Tour by The Book Club: WATER BOARDING by Bragadeesh Prasanna

WATER BOARDING

Bragadeesh Prasanna

Blog Tour by The Book Club: WATER BOARDING by Bragadeesh Prasanna

Blurb

As a torture technique, Waterboarding involves the torturer to pour water over the face of the captive, over a damp towel to give a sensation of drowning. While the mind knows that he is not actually drowning, the captive's body sends contrasting signals to the brain making it a very painful experience.

Ved, who just got out of a life-changing accident finds out that he has blank spaces in his memory. He is unsure about his past and uncertain about his future but goes through with the present with the help of his friend Sara. Sara slowly builds Ved's past, filling him with people and instances he had forgotten.

As Ved struggles with the financial strain caused by his accident and subsequent medical bills and figuring out whom to trust, Ved is forced to live in the moment, which is dark, terrifying and maddening as his past catches up with him. Will he finally know who he was and how his past actions affect his present?

My Honest Review:

Waterboarding is love triangle story of Ved, Maya, and Sara.

Life throws them into a strange situation when Ved meets with an accident and he suffers memory loss. He not only suffers from physical pain but also from mental agony as his mental slate is filled with any blank patches which cause confusion and mental anguish.

Though the story plot is good, the book has too many flaws. In a couple of instances, the chapter starts with first-person narration as an entry in the diary but somewhere in middle, it switches to third-person narration and back again to the first person.

All three protagonists are so confused about their relationships that leave the reader too confused. This along with few editing errors, too many characters coming and going and different timelines of each protagonist’s journal entry adds to too many confusion.

With proper editing and little clear and interesting narration, Waterboarding would definitely make a better read.

Book Review-The Royal Roommate by P G Van

THE ROYAL ROOMMATE
by
P.G.Van

Blurb
My purpose in life is to protect you…

Sid is Army strong and sinfully sexy. He is tasked to investigate a woman suspected of having connections with a rebel group. The style of investigation was not his choice, and he is asked to move in as the roommate of the person of interest, Amy.
Amy was thrilled to start her internship in San Francisco and wasn’t expecting a man with rock-solid abs as her roommate. The moment she laid eyes on him, she knew he was bad news.

The attraction was undeniable and they both wondered how long they could hold on to their resolve. Sid didn’t want to sleep with a suspect even if she was wildly beautiful and sexy. Amy wasn’t interested in a fling.

Just when Sid is about close his investigation and declare Amy’s innocence, he finds out something about her that changes everything. She becomes the most important person in his life.

My honest review:

First I would like to ask the author; “Why do all her stories start with a road accident?”

Jokes apart, The Royal Roommate is a fast-paced, erotica with fully packed romance, suspense and mystery with a royal touch.

This is third book of P G Van, which I have read and I must say she does have flair of mixing suspense, mystery, erotica and romance, all-in-one and always deliver a hit. This story keeps you glued to your chair and the story from page one till last.

While reading, I felt that The Royal Roommate is inspired from a hit Hollywood movie on same lines but the movie was a rom-com while this has mystery and suspense and action too.

The Royal Roommate is a must read if you like fast-paced romantic thriller and also if you have read past works of the author, then this book you mustn’t miss.
