Sandra lost her husband, Sam, and was lonely in this not-so-alone world until she met Sam’s look-alike, Fran, from another world. Will Fran be able to provide all the happiness Sandra has been yearning since Sam’s physical body left?

The Doppelgänger is a metaphysical short story that will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions as the astral and physical bodies clash.

My Review:

The Doppelganger is a short story with a unique combination of two genres: fantasy and paranormal. It is a little different genre but really worth a read.

Usually, life after losing a loved one is difficult especially, when the loved one leaves the world all of a sudden and at a very young age.

For Sandra, it was difficult to cope after losing her husband but when she, by chance meets Sam's doppelganger Fran everything changes.

I loved the unique theme of the story. It is a good, short read with a unique story plot which has never been explored before.

The Doppelganger is definitely a must read by everyone, if you wanna read something different yet interesting.

It would be great if you can add this book to your TBR

Book Review-Olivier Lafont's SnowBound

SNOWBOUND
by
Olivier Lafont

Blurb
Christmas is dying.

The last Santa Claus had triplets who each inherited a portion of his father’s power, and that split is now tearing apart the soul of Christmas.

Niccolo Vecchio, the eldest, has fortified the North Pole into a citadel of ice and metal.

Santini, the middle brother, is in hiding somewhere in the Mediterranean.

The youngest brother, Niccolo Piccolo, is raising legions to reclaim his inheritance.

Two of the triplets will have to renounce their claim in the next forty-eight hours, or this Christmas will be the last one ever.

And it’s up to Adam, underachieving teenager sub-ordinaire, and his brand new jock bully Zach to make that happen…

My Honest Review:

Since childhood we have heard and associated Christmas with fat, pot-bellied, white bearded Santa, his reindeer, his elves and his laugh ho ho ho. We always picture him as a jovial old man who loves children and can never be mean to anyone. Whenever we mention Christmas we have an inbuilt, typical image of Santa in his red and white robe, reindeer and elves in their green dress.

But Snowbound by Olivier Lafont is story of Santa’s three sons with a big twist.

Though it is a fiction with childhood fantasy theme, it has an adult angle (with reference to age and antagonist and not otherwise).

Olivier Lafont has panache for writing stories with suspense and mystery. His Sweet Revenge was first book I read and I had liked his writing style. Similarly Snowbound too has mystery around Santa’s three sons and captures reader’s attention right from start till the end.

The story is just too addictive; you really can’t stop till you finish it.

But there are few drawbacks which I would like to mention. The author has used foreign dialect but no translations of those are given. I would have liked it if the translation was mentioned below, as not all are well versed or have knowledge of French, Italian or Ukraine dialect.

Also in couple of sentences I found some simple editing errors which could have been avoided.

But other than that, I absolutely loved reading Snowbound even if it is little difficult to imagine Santa’s children in negative avtar.

Snowbound is a must read if you like fantasy, fiction and Christmas with Santa.

Review-Encounters by Sumana Khan

Encounters
Someone's Always Waiting
by
Sumana Khan

Blurb
ENCOUNTERS is a potpourri of five sumptuous stories involving a motley crew of protagonists. Skating along the borders of fantasy and paranormal themes, the stories track incredible and poignant journeys of self-discovery, tracing the cathartic aftermath of fleeting encounters.

My Review

Very rarely you come across an author, whose creations you are reading for 1st time and you think why I didn’t read her books before?

Sumana, I am falling short of words to praise your work, your talent in writing, the way you kept me hooked till I finished each story is totally mesmerizing.

I received Encounters through The Book Club for an honest review. And I would say I totally loved it. Like in her first story in the book First Love, I fell in love with the writer, the characters, the plot, the cover picture…

First love left me spell bound, The storyteller had me awed, Reminiscence left me with tears in eyes and ache in heart, Happiness clinic left me thinking and last but not the least Best Friends made a permanent place in my heart.

Loved the way Sumana has woven the plots, which leave the reader so engrossed, that I actually imagined myself there, characters playing in front of my eyes. Out of five stories, First Love, Happiness clinic and Best friends touched me a lot.

I read the book twice and both the times it left me short of words, gasping for breath till I reached the end of a story.

Encounters-Someone’s Always Waiting, is a mixture of fantasy fiction, paranormal fiction, personal loss of a close one, natural calamity, finding one’s identity and reason of existence.

Each story is of different genre and it leaves an everlasting mark on readers mind.

My Verdict on Encounters – Someone’s Always Waiting … If you want to enjoy a good engrossing read, Encounters is one you must definitely go for.
