C for Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui

Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui is another movie of 2021 that caught more eyeballs and was trending. The reason is the topic and the uniqueness in which the picturization is done and also the flair of the actors who are playing their roles.

Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui's director Abhishek Kapoor has portrayed the troubles, insecurity, emotions, the feelings of a person who undergoes a sex-change operation, and how society perceives that person and how they react to the person to the T. What is different was usually in movies and also in reality, the mother is the one who accepts her child’s shortcomings and accepts their flaws whereas the father is the one who is unable to come to terms with the flaws of his offspring but in this movie, the case is reversed. It is Vani Kapoor's father who accepts his son’s transformation into a daughter whereas the mother is unable to come to the terms that she has gone through this procedure and become what she is today.

The acting of Ayushman Khurana has portrayed the character of a typical Punjabi macho man with a sculpted body, six-packs and all. He is one of the versatile actor who is known to play unique characters in his movies which most well-known actors refuse to play. And he carries the role with such a flair that the character stays with you for long. In this movie too his acting is top-notch, be it the serious scene or the comedy scenes he has done it so nicely that it's worth applauding him for his work. The work of Vani Kapoor and her father Kanwaljit Singh is also worth watching.

This movie has portrayed the difficulty, pain, and emotions of the third gender people and also of those who have gone through the sex-change operation so nicely that you feel it while watching the movie. It touches your heart when you watch this movie when you come to know the pain they go through with what they suffer; rejection, ridicule, hate, and whatnot, not only from society but also from their own family.

Hats off to the Director for making a movie on such a unique and sensitive topic which might prove to be an eye-opener for many.

If you have watched the movies do let me know what your feedback is.

B for Badhaai Do

The movie Badhaai do was in news recently for many good reasons. It is one of the best movies I have seen about the LGBTQ+ family. The movie has portrayed not only the difficulties but also the pain and struggle of those people who are having a tough time coming out of the closet and having a respectable and respectful life in society. Not only is it a big struggle for them to be accepted in society but also mainly and firstly by their own family.

Firstly I would like to say both the protagonists, Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar have played their characters with flair; be it some highly loaded, complex emotional scene or a light-hearted one. In one of the scenes where the male lead Rajkummar Rao says he was not able to achieve what he wanted to do in life because of family pressure, depicts the reality of Indian society holds true for the majority of people in India because in our country most people are living the dreams woven by their parents. Kids are usually not allowed to follow their passion or live their life. They have to do what their parents say what is expected from them by the family. A doctor’s son/daughter is expected to become a doctor and follow in his/ hers parent's footsteps. An engineer’s offspring is expected to be an engineer; a banker’s offspring is expected to be a banker. No one asks or wants to listen to their kids about what they want just because of family pressure. Most kids give up their dreams and passion and live miserable life just because they have to follow the social norms.

Not only the struggle and the difficulties, but the pain faced by the LGBTQ+ family are so real and heart-touching. The scene where the male protagonist breaks down in front of his family and opens his heart is applaudable. Even today some people think being gay or lesbian is a disease that can be cured with medicine and therapy. The most unexpected scene which won my heart was the ending scene. I won't give away any spoilers but people who have watched the movie know what I'm talking about. It is the end scene that won the hearts of many people. So this movie is a must-watch and I will watch it again and again and again.

I want to say hats off to the director, the writer, and the actors as each character portrayed was relatable and if you look around you find them in your vicinity or in your family which made the movie even more entertaining and also relatable.

If you have watched the movie do let me know your inputs along with feedback to my blog.

R for Raksha Bandhan

She looked at the smooth silky threads,

longingly...

Those dazzling diamonds and sparkles,

the cute, eye-catching designs...

Every year she breezes through all the designs,

To pick up that one special thread for him.

Even though she knows...

He is no more

But still

Her heart says,

'He will be home this Raksha Bandhan'

O for Oblivious

She sat on a bench in a park,

Squeals of delight felt like the sweetest music to her tired soul.

The ruckus she saw, was the cutest sight to her sore eyes.

One moment she was enjoying and smiling,

But the next moment she felt a dull ache in her heart…

With a heavy heart, she gets up,

She pushes the wheelchair ahead,

Which seated her little princess,

Oblivious to both,

The ruckus of the kids

And also to the mayhem in her Mom’s heart.

L for Lonely

Her smile is infectious,

They say...

But no one noticed

That her smile doesn't reach her eyes.

She is center of attraction in every event...

But all she wants is the attention of that one special person.

All say she is a strong woman...

But she wants to be enveloped in his strong and comforting embrace.

Friends say 'Whenever one needs help,

She is just a call away'...

But every day she waits for that one call.

They say 'She is always surrounded by her admirers'...

But nobody knows she feels lonely inside,

Longing for the company of a genuinely loving person,

Whom she can trust,

On whose shoulders she can cry on,

Who will soothe her panicky nerves,

Who will wipe away her tears

And bring back smile in those deep brown eyes of hers.

G for Granddaughter

He eagerly waited for her arrival,
Nervously pacing up and down the corridor,
He had waited for this moment for long.

And then she arrived...

He held her close,
for the first time.

He was mesmerized by her...
With her Shiny Doe-shaped eyes
She was staring at him.

And,

He Fell in love...

With the little bundle of joy,
His first grandchild,
His Granddaughter...

She was his love...Love at first sight.

F for Farewell

As clouds gathered in the sky,
So did dark thoughts in her mind.

As pitter-patter fell the raindrops,

so did her tears.

Far away lightning struck
And torched a tree,
Here,
 pain struck her broken heart.

Why me???
She cried deep inside...

She had lost everything...

Her friends had betrayed her trust

Her love had betrayed her too.

She had no one to look forward to...

She cast a tearful glance around her.

She bid a silent adieu to all...

To the city,

She was born in,

Where she had grown up...

Before...

Before she...

Before she hopped on the train going to a distant land,

Where no one can reach her

Or where no one knows her.

But as they say

'We plan for life,

But Life always has a different plan for us'

C for Cakes

Just mention 'Cakes' and you can see their eyes sparkle. Be younger ones or the older children, all are fans of cakes.

          Who doesn’t like cakes???

Cakes have become an integral part of every celebration. Not only just for birthdays and anniversary celebrations, cakes are for every occasion nowadays.

Cakes come in all shapes, size, and flavors.

One look at their scintillating beauty and the intrinsic artwork and everyone goes Oohhs and aahhs. Mention the flavor and everyone around starts to drool…and when we sink our teeth into them… we are transported to food heaven… that’s the power of cakes.

Baking a cake is therapeutic, some say. But I would like to add from my personal experience. Never ever start baking when you are in a foul mood. No matter how much tried and tested recipe it is, if you are not in proper state of mind that bake is bound to be a disaster. So whenever you start baking, just lighten up yourself a bit, listen to music, get into that mood, and then see the magic.

Most of you know why I became a home baker…but seeing the amount of sugar and artificial colors used in decorating cakes that I took a step back or rather I should say have changed my course of direction.

As mother of special needs child I have always seen children and parents struggling with what to give and what not to give to our kids. So nowadays I am trying to bake healthy bakes which can be devoured by our kids without any guilt or worry.  Hope to achieve success in this endeavor.

B for Bhaiyya

She called him 'Bhaiyya'
Like she used to call her own.

Vacations at Bhaiyya's were fun,
Where she was showered with affection and love,
As she was youngest of all.

She grew up to be a young woman.

The bubble of this trust burst,
When her so-called 'Protector'
Lusted her,
Leaving her shattered and battered...

And people say,

"Women are safe at home!"

A for Abandoned

She had felt it grow,
From a cell to a fully formed baby.

She caressed her bloated stomach, tenderly,

"It better be a normal boy this time" he barked.

Love gave way to fear in her eyes and heart...

Tears made her vision blurry.

A dull ache in her heart brought back memories of her previous two children.

Finally, the D-day arrived...

The last thing she remembered was doctor administering the anaesthesia...

When she finally woke up,
After what seemed hours,

In a strange surrounding,
In an unknown place.
All alone...

Abandoned... with her stillborn daughter.
