L for Lunchbox

The Lunchbox (2013) is a romance movie but with a difference. Neither the male lead is a rich, tall, dark, and handsome type, nor is the female lead slim, trim, drop-dead gorgeous nor does the movie has a happy ending. But their (love) story is beautiful and somewhat cute. The only regret is that the film has a cliffhanger ending, which left the audiences guessing what happened to Ila and Sajjan Fernandes.

Irrfan Khan is one such artist who delivers any character with such flair that he leaves a print on your mind. Nimrat Kaur as timid housewife Ila, Nawazuddin Siddiqui as obnoxious and loud Shaikh are some of the other characters I love.

Mumbai dabbawalas are famous for their way of working and seldom commit a mistake while delivering the tiffins. But in this movie, somehow there is an error in their network, which being a Mumbaikar, is hard for me to believe.

But still, I loved this movie and will watch it just for the brilliant acting of the three main leads of this film.

Dance With Me
by
P.G Van

BLURB

When a video of Suhana dancing in her own home goes viral, the first thing she does is panic. Suhana got out of a loveless marriage and is trying to prove to her ex-husband that she can live her life without him or the money she got as part of the divorce. She had been a housewife all along, but now she is trying to rebuild her life. However, life throws her a wrench in the form of a viral video—a video that creates a sensation on the internet.

Samyan is her elderly neighbor’s son who is staying at his mother’s place while she is away, and Suhana keeps bumping into him wherever she goes. His very looks instigate new thoughts and sensations within her that she tries to ignore because of the man she thinks he is. But, when he helps her in the direst of situations, she finds out more about him and starts to feel a connection to him.

Dance with Me is a sweet, light-hearted and passionate love story with a happy ending.

Note: This is a standalone romance with content recommended for mature readers.

My Review:

Author P G Van is well known for her hot romances. With her new book Dance With Me, the author has not only broken her image of hot romance writer but has created a different identity for herself, as Dance With Me is not only a romance with hot and steamy scenes but much more than that.

Suhana is a modern day woman with Indian upbringing but settled in the US. Her sole purpose in life is to give her son a better life. Even though she has been separated from her cheating husband she doesn’t want her son to be deprived of his father's love and attention. But is she right in doing so?

Having read the author’s previous works, which were hot romances, I was expecting something similar from this book too. But I was in a surprise as it has many topics, one of which highlights the plight of a housewife who with no proper qualification or job is at mercy of her husband’s taunts and jibes.

I loved reading this mature love story of Sam and Suhana. I loved reading this multi-genre book which has romance and suspense. Dance With Me is definitely a must read.

Review-Deep Downer's The Time is Now

The Time is Now
by
Deep Downer

BLURB

What possibly could an Ex-Major, an Ex-College Professor, a bookstore manager, and a college student have in common? Has fate brought them all together to rekindle some old flames or to start an entirely new one?

The Time Is Now is a short, sweet, unusual, un-cliched, and a mature love story. With just four main characters and one locale, the story is like a leisurely walk around the park on a pleasant summer evening that relaxes you and recharges you at the same time. It is sure to leave you with a mirthful feeling in the end and possibly moist eyes too.

My Review:

A short and mature love story in a unique writing style. As the author has mentioned beforehand that it is an experiment, I will say the experiment has been successful.

With just four characters, the author has successfully managed to weave such a touching romantic story, accolades for that.

Love the ending of the story. Nice book cover, clear and developed characters, simple yet full of suspense which is maintained till the climax of the story are some of the plus points of this book.

This is the first work of D R Downer which I read and I must say really loved reading it. The Time is Now is definitely a must read.

About the author

He started his professional journey as an Executive in the sales department of a UK based organization, selling timeshare. Since then he changed over and handled many different roles and responsibilities in the Marketing, Sales & Customer Service departments across industries. He finally shifted over to Advertising and spent a good 11 years in the same. It was during the later years of his career that he started to feel suffocated, doing the same sh**, day in and day out. he started to feel as if he was meant to do something more in life, and it was this feeling that forced him to call it quits and resign from his then position of Vice President of a multinational Advertising firm.

He finally had his calling in writing.  He took out his laptop and simply started to punch the keys on a blank word processor page. Since then, his laptop has been his closest friend, the one he spends most of his time with. In fact, sometimes he wonders if his wife can sue him for cheating on her...with his laptop. No seriously, can she?
