My Review:

#Just Romance is a collection of seven stories that can neither be called a short story or a novella. But each story has twist and turns which keeps you keep hooked till the end. There is romance no doubt but suspense and mystery too in each story around the protagonist that sometimes you feel there is more to it.

Each story is unique; some will shake your core while some bring a smile on your face. The author Jyoti Arora has used simple, lucid language, which makes an easy connection with the reader. The cover image is apt and the title though different yet apt.

The short poems at start of each story are really something which sets the mood of the story. The description of the settings of the scene is so detailed that one can actually visualize it while reading.

So, if you like to read romances, then #JustRomance is a must-read.

About the author

Jyoti Arora is an Indian novelist and blogger. Besides her books, her writing achievements include several wins in blogging competitions, over five years of freelance writing experience, developing books for kids and abridging 30 English novels like Jane Eyre, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, etc.

Jyoti’s first novel ‘Dream’s Sake’ was published by V&S Publishers in 2011. It tells a beautiful love story revolving around the troubles of physically challenged people. Her second novel ‘Lemon Girl’ is based on the theme of gender crime against women and victim-blaming. It is featured in Ezvid’s wiki list of 9 Well-Written Novels That Put Women Front & Center. It also received appreciation from Ms. Maneka Gandhi. Her third novel ‘You Came Like Hope’ talks about the opposite side of the issue discussed in Lemon Girl. That is, it talks about the fake cases filed by women. This too is a case of gender crime and victim-blaming. But in this case, it is the man who suffers. The book received much appreciation for its unique theme and heart-warming love story. All three books are intense and based on serious social issues. For her fourth book, Jyoti decided to write something lighter and happier. That’s what has resulted in #JustRomance, a collection of happy love stories.

Books have always been Jyoti’s best friends. In fact, books so fascinated her from early childhood that she learnt to read by herself even before she started going to school. And she considers herself fortunate that she is able to pursue her dream of being a novelist and work at what she loves best.

However, if books are her first love, the thrilling and steadily advancing world of technology also fascinates her. As a result, one of her blogs is a technological blog called TechnoTreats. One of her posts in this blog even won her the title of Samsung Mobiler in 2011. After that, she has won several other blogging competitions too.

She is a patient of Thalassemia which forced her to drop out of school too soon. But she did not let that defeat her. She studied on her own and completed her schooling through correspondence courses. Then she went on to Jyoti study BA English (Honours) from Delhi University and then achieved postgraduation degrees in English Literature and Applied Psychology from Annamalai University.

For her determination and achievements, she has received appreciation from several eminent dignitaries and her life story has been covered in various TV shows, radio programs, newspapers, magazines, and websites. In the year 2016, she was one of the 100 special women achievers of India that were invited as special guests to attend the Republic Day parade in Delhi.

KEY TO MY SOUL

"When Siddharth, a lonely young man with a failed marriage gets a sudden phone-call from a mysterious person about his lost childhood lover, Hazel, and learns that she is battling for life, he is shaken to the core. He also learns that she had left certain letters for him fifteen years back that never reached him. It disturbs him so much that he rushes to the hospital in his old hometown. There he discovers an eclipsed past buried in time that is riddled with dangerous surprises, trauma, twists of fate, sacrifices that exemplify true love and the real reasons for the tragic end of their childhood love story. But will Hazel ever open her eyes to see him..."

My Honest Review:

Key To My Soul is a typical coming of age love story of Sidd Banerjee and Hazel Castelinos.

It’s a romantic story which starts in present, takes you back to the protagonists past, where they got acquainted, fall in love but fate separates them. Their journey after that, under what circumstances they meet again, will they get together or will fate deliver another blow, is what the story is all about.

What caught my eye was the title of the story and its relevant use in bringing out the real essence of the story as well as the title.

Excellent story weaving by the debutant author, who keeps the reader hooked to the story. While reading the letters you can actually feel the pain of the protagonist, you experience the love and serene surrounding of Jamshedpur. The only flaw I would like to mention is why Sidd felt fleeced by the lawyer in his divorce case. The details are not mentioned even though the author has covered all the aspects of life like before and after Hazel but left this point out. If this detail was mentioned, it would have added little more power to Sidd’s story.

Other than this missing point in the story, the book is worth a read, medium paced, romantic story with little hint of mystery but well developed characters and situations.

Key to my Soul is a story of true love which faces the ups and downs blown by fate and still ends up with a happy note. Kudos to the writer, whose poems added extra oomph to the otherwise beautiful story.

About the author

Probal Mazumdar works in an IT company. He is an NIT engineer by societal pressure, singer by accident, guitarist by love at first sound, poet by soul, writer by passion, a world class badminton player in childhood dreams, rebel by day, recluse by night, a samosa in a family of laddoos, a Jughead at the dining table, a shameless and congenital dreamer.

Oh! An arsonist too – when his wife is not around, sets his own house on fire with his little son.

He won the FIRST prize in the All India Poetry Competition, 2014, conducted by PSI (Poetry Society of India). Click on www.indianpoetry.org/awardsgeneral14.htm

His other poems have risen too from cold storage into literary journals like Indian Literature (Sahitya Akademi), Wasafiri (U.K. Vol. 67), Acumen (U.K.), OtherPoetry (U.K.), Chandrabhaga Literary Journal (Editor Jayanta Mahapatra), Dhauli Review, amongst others.

He writes short stories too. This is his first foray into writing a novel.

The Title of the Book is “Key To My Soul.”

The entire plot and story of the novel hinges on these words of the Title. Once the protagonist, Sidd, finds out the Key, he enters the Soul of his long lost beloved. The words, “Key to my Soul” is also a phrase used by his beloved in a letter to him which is the axis the story revolves around.

Book Review-Rubina Ramesh's Finding The Angel

FINDING THE ANGEL
by
Rubina Ramesh

Blurb

All She wanted was love...

Shefali is a die-hard romantic. Having lost her parents at a very tender age, she is in search of a place which she can call home. Her passion for Art lands her a job as an art curator to the famous artifacts of the Ranaut Dynasty. When she meets the scion, Aryan Ranaut, she feels that her dream might come true until…

All He wanted was to trust…

Living the life of a modern day Prince is no easy task for the young and dashing Aryan Ranaut. Having lost his father to a rapacious woman, Aryan has severe trust issues. But upon meeting Shefali, he feels he could let down his guard. Until…

All They need is to find The Angel…

Just as Aryan realizes his love for Shefali, one of the most precious artifacts, The Angel, goes missing from the Ranaut collection. All fingers point towards Shefali—more so because she leaves the palace without telling anyone on the very night of the theft.

Finding the Angel is a story where duty clashes with love and lack of trust overrides passion. Under these circumstances, can The Angel bring the star-crossed lovers together?

My Honest Review:

Finding the Angel is second book of the author which I have read. The Knitted Tales was a collection of heart and soul touching stories. But Finding The Angel is typical run out of mill, Mills & Boons type story, with suspense as main hero and romance and relationships as supporting cast.

Though I loved the plot, story and the well-developed characters, it's bit difficult to digest Aryan’s attitude towards Shefali. He was such a confused character that his behavior in some scenes seemed to be obnoxious. Also would have loved to know how does the thief manage to steal The Angel without anyone noticing it?

Except for these two things, Finding The Angel is a fast paced romantic story, with suspense as the main lead. But once you start reading, you just can’t put the book down until you finish reading till the end. I would like to add one line about Rubina, she can write any genre with equal flair and excel in it. Keep the good work and keep us hooked to your work.
