Book Review-Love & Curses by Sunita Saldhana

Love & Curses
by
Sunita Saldhana

BLURB

When Amber meets Shardul, her heart starts doing somersaults and it seems as if her body has forgotten how to breathe. She has never been so strongly attracted to anyone before. But beneath the physical attraction, there is something else that she struggles with. Why does he seem so familiar when she is sure she has never met him before? And why has she suddenly started waking up each morning with tears running down her cheeks, haunted by the same dream every night?

Shardul has been waiting for Amber forever. But fate conspired to keep them apart. He could not forget what she could not remember. Now that he had finally found her, would she open her heart to love or would he lose her forever?

My Review:

Love and curses is a short romantic story with magic and mystery.

Love and curses is Sunita's debut novel and she has done a commendable job with this fast-paced story with the right amount of mystery and magic. Use of simple language, well-defined characters, and mention of local locales is an added advantage as it makes an instant connection to the reader.

I loved Sunita's narration style as she manages to hold the reader's curiosity and story's suspense till the very end.

Lovely and intriguing cover picture, simple use of language, reference of a local town makes an instant connection with any Mumbaikar; these are some of the plus points of the book.

Minus points, none, I would say as the story and writing is flawless and beautiful.

Love and curses is definitely a must read by all who believe in love and magic and even otherwise.

Book Review-Reshma Ranjan's Deceptive Baritone

Deceptive Baritone
by Reshma Ranjan

BLURB

Sitara Menon is eager to meet the man for whom she has been carrying the torch since her teenage years. She hopes to rekindle their love and romance.

Giriraj Parapuram, one of the lead vocalists of the Benson Town Rock Band, considered music, their band and his friends his world. The last thing he wanted was to come face to face with the woman who had made him lose his faith in women and love.

Sitara organizes the concerts in Denver for the US tour of the Benson Town Rock Band, eager to meet Giri, mesmerized by his baritone voice, sweet memories and an unforgettable passion.

Giri is shocked to find the girl of his dreams changed into a woman who challenges him, infuriates and brings out his baser instincts.

Will their past force them apart yet again or will their desires bring them together?

Will Sitara be able to rekindle their romance?

Will Giri be able to trust and love her again?

My Review:

A simple misunderstanding can ruin a relationship; be it between siblings or lovers. A small misunderstanding and lack of communication can create a great rift between the two individuals.

Deceptive Baritone is a fast-paced romance with a background of a music band. Sitara aka Tara and Giri are childhood sweethearts. But lack of communication, misunderstanding and other circumstances replace the love with hatred. But will they clear the air of misunderstanding and get back their love?

I liked the way Reshma has created the story plot with various layers and has no loose ends.

So if you like romance and want a quick dose of it with a hint of little mystery amongst the lovers one must read Deceptive Baritone by Reshma Ranjan.

My Honest Review:

Walking On The Path Of Indie Publishing is the second book of the toolkit series and is written by well-known Indie author and founder of the book club, Rubina Ramesh.

In this book, Rubina has explained the nitty-gritty of the marketing, before, during and after the release of your book.

The author has covered each and every aspect of marketing on social media sites and not to forget, the finer details and importance of editing, beta reading, and proofreading.

In other words, Rubina has covered each and every topic from the start (i.e. from writing) until the end (i.e. release of your book).

I really applaud Rubina, first for putting together the idea of toolkits and secondly for her writing and sharing her in-depth knowledge and her experiences, which will provide as a guiding light to all aspiring authors, who would otherwise be moving around like a headless chicken in this publishing world.

Walking On The Path Of Indie Publishing is a must buy and read by one and all current and budding writers who aspire to publish their works, as it has all the necessary details that one will need, right from editing to marketing to cover image designing.

About the Author

Almost as soon as Devika Fernando could write, she imagined stories and poems. After finishing her education in Germany and returning to her roots in Sri Lanka, she got a chance to turn her passion into her profession. Having lived in Germany and in Sri Lanka with her husband has made her experience the best (and the worst) of two totally different worlds – something that influences her writing. Her trademark are sweet, yet deeply emotional romance stories where the characters actually fall in love instead of merely falling in lust. She draws inspiration from everyone and everything in life. Besides being a romance novel author, she works as a self-employed German web content writer, as a translator, and as a faithful servant to all the cats, dogs, fish and birds in her home. What she loves most about being an author is the chance to create new worlds and send her protagonists on a journey full of ups and downs that will leave them changed. When she’s not writing, she’s reading or thinking about writing.

My Review:

First of all, a big THANK YOU to The Book Club and the authors who have contributed to this idea of writing the toolkits. As it puts to rest so many doubts and queries which arises in mind of any future budding authors and are clueless about where to go and whom to ask.

Why Go Indie? is the first book of the series and is written by none other than Devika Fernando who is a well-known Indie author herself.

Devika has written beautifully the pros and cons of a traditionally published book through a publication house and also about self-publication i.e. being an Indie author. She has dealt with each and every struggle or hurdle that an author faces when one goes to publish his/her work through an agent/publication house.

Also, the benefits and advantages of self-publication and how to become an Indie Author is also dealt with and explained wonderfully.

Thank you, Rubina Ramesh, for this brainwave and thanks to all the contributing authors who have put forth their views and their experiences which will provide as a guiding light to all current and upcoming authors.

So, if you want to publish your book, go buy these toolkits and read to get an in-depth knowledge of self-publication.

Book Review-De. B. Dubois's The Girl Child

Top post on IndiBlogger, the biggest community of Indian Bloggers

The Girl Child
by
De. B. Dubois

Blurb

Growing up as a strong-headed single child with a privileged upbringing in Calcutta, Devi has learned much from her surroundings. Her childhood memories are filled with mixed emotions – especially as she remains angry with her mother and the hypocrisy of women in India. On an unexpected journey home, she encounters reality – new stories and experiences of strangers, as well as friends. It has been years since she left Calcutta, yet the city’s untold stories haunt her. This time Devi is back in town to solve issues and above all, through some painful and hard revelations, to make peace with those she can.

My Honest Review:

Why in India is it so sinful to be born as a girl? Since the day a girl is born she is treated as a burden, as a liability, as an object, who is born to fulfill her duties as a dutiful daughter, wife, daughter in law and a mother...

The Girl Child is the story of Devi who reminisces her journey of life since she was born and her experiences and partial treatment she suffered from her family.

The Author has covered each and every phase each and every instance of a girl's life. Not only of the protagonist but also of each and every insult, every torture a woman faces in her day-to-day struggle called life.

Simple language, easy to relate instances, all makes it an easy read and easy to connect too.

The Girl Child is a book which can make you angry and sad about the injustice met and elated on Devi's triumph.

Hats off to the author who chose to wrote on such bold topic. The book is an eye opener and a must read for one and all

De.B. is an ordinary person with her daily struggles of being fun and peppy; as all those heavy readings on sociology, philosophy, history, art and culture have done her sombre. – Not that she is complaining, – however when things do get too hectic, her escape solutions are: long walks through nature trails with her adopted Maltese, a good glass of absinthe from Val-de-Travers, and creating visual arts. Her friends best describe De.B. Dubois as, – ‘the hermit’.

Book Review - Varsha Dixit's Killer Moves

Killer Moves
by
Varsha Dixit

Blurb

Everyone has a secret. Aisha Khatri has many!  Aisha’s life is seemingly mundane on the surface-she writes for television and takes care of her niece Kiara and her retired father. But when Kiara’s life is threatened during a modeling assignment for the famous Kabir Rana, once a suspect for his wife’s murder, the only way Aisha can save Kiara is by accepting the unique ability she has aggressively resisted all her life.  But Aisha is not the only one with secrets. There are others who have secrets and will kill to keep them. Aisha is determined to protect Kiara even if it means placing herself in the crosshairs of a depraved killer who butchers beautiful girls and leaves them as grotesque displays.  Is Kiara a target of a serial killer or is the killer closer to home-and Aisha’s heart?  Who is Kabir Rana? An elusive and moody fashion photographer burdened with a dark past or a murderer who got away?  How will Aisha save Kiara from a killer who is several steps ahead of an entire city’s police force? When the dead come calling, will Aisha answer?  From the bustling streets of Goa to the beautiful palaces of Sirsa, Killer Moves is a fast-paced, gripping, romantic suspense tale with strong thriller and supernatural elements.

My Review:

When your favorite romance author, pens a thriller, the level of expectations are high. So when Varsha Dixit’s Killer Moves was released, I was eager to read it as I have read all her previous romance novels and have loved reading her work.

So was it up to my expectations? Well, it was more than that. I was surprised and held in awe. Just like her romance books, the story of Killer Moves is just flawless and a super addictive read.

The protagonist Kabir and Aisha, both victims of childhood tragedy are thrown together due to circumstances and sparks fly, but will it kindle the fire between them?

Varsha has definitely written a super thriller story, which gives you chills and keeps you on edge of your seat while reading it.

Awesome book cover, fast-paced story, well-defined characters are all the plus points of Killer Moves.

So if you like to read a thriller and you want to read a good book, this one is a must read.
